1989 Topps Major League Debut #129: Robin Ventura
Robin Ventura
PHOTO: Ventura sure didn't look like much of a ballplayer on his early cards...so scrawny. Also, what the heck is happening to the background? The people on the left look painted on, and there's the weird black hole with people in it on the right...
STAT: Ventura had a whopping 6 walkoff homers, including a come-from-behind gramd slam off Goose Gossage. Wow.
ANAGRAM: Robin Ventura = I overturn ban (or, if you prefer, "riverboat nun")
CAREER: 6/10
Ventura was a very good 3B for 9 seasons from 1991 to 1999, although he was never the best 3B in MLB. He appeared a good amount in the postseason and never hit well, although he knock in 19 runs in 37 games. He was one of the guys to help turn around the White Sox franchise in the early 1990s.

I've been waiting for Robin! Favorite all time player ritgh there!
ReplyDeleteAs I am reminded on the telecasts everyday since Gordon Beckham arrived, Robin started his career 0 for 41.
ReplyDeleteVentura will always be remembered for one thing: getting his face rearranged by Nolan Ryan.
